Who hath believed our report? and to whom is the arm of the LORD revealed?
Isaiah 53:1 kjv
This question ‘who has believed our report?’ implies that there are several other reports that can be accepted or believed. The report of the Lord is simply His counsel regarding a matter. This report is clearly written in the verses following the scripture and through out the bible. The report of the Lord is not complicated, but a belief is needed. The question here was posed to the individual man, because the just shall live by his faith, Habakkuk 2:4. The report is a news from God’s reality, where He is exalted and victorious.
The question also implies that there might be a difficulty for people to accept the report of the Lord. This is most likely because the ways of the Lord are so different from ours, Isaiah 55:8-9. He speaks according to His ability, not ours. The question continues, asking ” to whom is the arm of the Lord revealed?’. There is a connection between believing the report of the Lord and seeing His hand. The arm of the Lord is His power, Deuteronomy 26:8. This is inexhaustible riches of Christ and His power revealed. The report of the Lord in Isaiah 53 is one that many still struggle with today. The summary is that King of Glory, the Eternal God came as a a child, born of a woman and was not recognized by His creation. He came as a lamb, was beaten, wounded, slain and offered no protest. In all these, He carried the sin of the World, taking the crushing that made us whole and the chastening that brought us peace with God.
The difficulty in belief is often either because to a normal man, it makes no sense that the one who created him would stoop so low to be despised by man. Another difficulty in belief is usually based on the situation a person is in. The report says he took our illnesses, yet a person my find it difficult to believe this because of the doctors report. It says he was wounded for our transgressions and bruised for our iniquity, but a person may find this difficult based on the level of depravity and sin they had committed. When God speaks however, He speaks to our hearts and not our heads. This bible says Christ dwells in our heart by faith, Ephesians 3:17 and that with the heart a man believes and confession is made unto salvation, Romans 10:10.
A case study from Hebrews 11 shows Abraham who believed God in a situation that did not make sense to the head, because He had judged God faithful. Abraham was 75 and was an impotent man, but God said “I have made you a father of many nations”, not “I will make you”. From God’s own perspective, he was a father of many nations. However, Abraham believed that He might become. Faith is often based on a spiritual understanding, not just a wishful thought. From Abrahams perspective and experience, He understood that it is impossible for God to lie. The Word of God is His power to execute and it never failed. This was what kept Abraham strong. T
The ability to be what God has spoken about us is also based on this faith. Paul says we have access to grace wherein we stand. There are hoards of evil yet to be released on the earth: pestilences and pandemics, wars and evils yet to be seen by man. Yet in all this, Psalm 91 says a thousand shall fall at our side and ten thousand at our right, but it will not come near our dwelling. A man who judges God faithful will encounter the arm of the Lord, His grace and His power, which is able to keep Him strong in the times to come. It is also said that because the iniquity level will be on an all time high, many will turn aside. Those who will remain are those who believe the Lord can keep their souls in life and will give them the Kingdom as He promised.
This is the time to build up faith and this faith comes to us by hearing the proceeding word of God. It is like a capsule that when spoken to us, contains the ability to believe and power to do all required, the moment accepted. We see this in the case of Mary, Luke 1:35-45, 2:7 and Ezekiel in Ezekiel 2:2. We train our faith from the little experiences we have had with God. It could be believing God for an exam, a Job or rent. When we see the arm of God here, we begin to learn and judge His character, which creates faith in us for the bigger situations. The proof of what you believe is in your thinking and your confession. This is why Paul admonishes that we cast down imaginations that seek to exalt itself against God’s counsel, 2 Corinthians 10:5. There is also a provision to pray for an increase in faith, if ours is weak. We can ask for and take on the faith of the Son of God, which does not waver. Our belief in God’s report will determine how we navigate the days to come. Each man will survive based on his faith level. This is how we’d stand not many days from now.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, thank You for Your Word to me today. Thank you because Your word contains the power to believe and also the grace to stand. Lord increase my faith. Give me the spiritual understanding I need to judge you faithful in the little things and in the big things. I believe Your Word Father, but help my unbelief.
