When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” [11] She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.”
John 8:10-11 NKJV
The story of the adulterous woman is a remarkable story of redemption. This woman could not be more guilty, being caught in the act of adultery. She had violated a covenant so treasured by God and the verdict was clear. However, upon coming before the only one who was pure enough to condemn her, she met an unexpected verdict. Jesus, whose custom it was, to always speak the Word of the Father paused to hear the heart of the Father. God says in Isaiah 40:2 “Comfort Jerusalem and say to her that her warfare is accomplished and that her iniquity is pardoned”. This was what Jesus re-echoed to this daughter of Jerusalem. He not only told her that she was forgiven, but He also spoke the Word of Power to her: “Go and Sin no more”.
At the utterance of this Word, she was introduced to the Word of His Grace which is able to secure her inheritance among them that are sanctified. Each one of us at salvation encounters this Word of His grace. However, it is very common to find believers that believe we are all sinners and will always be sinners. Rather than receiving this command to go and sin no more, they trade their confession, calling that which is not meant to be over their lives. As a result, they begin to fall short of our true reality. If all sinned because of Adam, then in Christ, all are made righteous, as said in Romans 5:14-17.
As children of a God who created the heavens out of that which was not seen by speaking, our Words have power. The bible says with the heart we believe and with our mouths, confession is made unto salvation. However, this confession, when speaking lies, can bring a negative experience. James 3:2-3 shows that if we can control the mouth of a horse, we control the whole body. If we can control our mouths, we can control our experience. Instead of confessing that you are a sinner, speak life. We have been freely given all things through Christ, this includes all things necessary for life and Godliness as written in 2 Peter 1:3-4. If God says let the weak say ‘I am strong’, He is not encouraging you to lie. There is a provision for the strength He provided already, and we bring it to our reality as we speak.
Final thoughts: We gain access to this grace by immersing ourselves in the Word. David said thy Word have I hid in my heart that I may not sin against you, Psalm 119:11. He also mentioned that the Lord is able to keep our souls in the realm of life, sin-free living, Psalm 66:9. The tendency to blame God for our shortcomings is an ungodly ancestral hold from Adam. Proverbs 24:16 shows that the just man can fall 7 times and rise. However, there is a provision in Jude 1:24 to be kept from falling. We live this life above sin and the accusation of the enemy by believing the truth that the blood has spoken about us and making this our confession in word and then indeed.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for your mercies that are new every morning. I commit myself to you, who is able to keep My feet from falling and present me blameless before your throne. Help me to delight in and meditate (confess and think on) on Your Word, that I may not sin against you.
