The blood shall be a sign for you on the houses where you live; and when I see the blood I will pass over you, and no plague will befall you to destroy you when I strike the land of Egypt. [14] ‘Now this day will be a memorial to you, and you shall celebrate it as a feast to the LORD; throughout your generations you are to celebrate it as a permanent ordinance.
Exodus 12:13-14 NASB
The feast of Passover marked the birth of the nation of Israel. It was the last plague that God released on Egypt that turned Israel from slaves to free men overnight. In this night, the Lord sent a spirit of death which moved over the land of Egypt into every house and killed every first born in all houses, except those that had the blood of a lamb on their door post and windows. The Hebrew word translated to English as Passover is “Pesach” and it means “a pretermission” or “an exemption”. And the root Hebrew word from which “Pesach” is derived is “Pâsach” which means “to skip over”. In essence the passover was a feast to celebrate when Israel skipped over a judgement of death that was upon the land where they were in. The blood was the mark of exemption.
1 Corinthians 5:7-8 says:
“[7] Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: [8] Therefore let us keep the feast, not with old leaven, neither with the leaven of malice and wickedness; but with the unleavened bread of sincerity and truth.”
This verse says that Christ is our passover lamb. John 1:29 called him the lamb of God who takes away the sin of the World. Matthew 26:1-2 shows he was actually crucified during the feast of the passover. Christ being our passover lamb means that His blood is for us, a mark of exemption. What are we exempt from? Like the Children of Israel, Christ’s blood was applied upon you (a house of the Lord) to serve as a mark that you should be exempt from God’s judgment on “Egypt”, and should be delivered from “Egypt”. Being that the new covenant Israel is the church, what is this Egypt we are delivered from? It is a system that holds people bound and keeps them from serving God acceptably. Colossians 1:12-14 says we were delivered from the powers of darkness (which thrives in ignorance). This is Egypt.
The power of darkness is the power of satan as Peter said in Acts 26:18. This power is sin and has its consequence in death. Since death is not just a physical separation, but a Spiritual separation from God, the blood of Jesus acts as a mark of exemption in this regard. For us, this means that the blood of Jesus separates us from those upon whom the power of satan can be exercised. That is, when the
blood of Jesus is upon you, you are no longer considered to be part of Egypt (part of those under the bondage of the power of satan) and as such the power of satan cannot be exercised to make you sin or make you sick or make you subject to demonic oppression of any sort (be it ancestral or territorial or witchcraft). This means you can be exempt from the effect of a pandemic on the whole world, because you are not in spiritual Egypt anymore.
Our duty is to know these things and insist that the life resident in the blood of Jesus, swallow up death in victory. Those who overcame the dragon did so by the blood, Revelations 12:10-11. However, the idea of them overcoming implies that it was a battle. They needed to stand firm in faith and believe in the finished work of Christ. If an Israelite did not hear that Israel was free to leave Egypt after the passover, he may have remained a slave in Egypt and missed his chance to escape. Beloved, know the power in the Blood and use it. You are truly free and exempt from death. Walk like a free man.
Prayer for today: Lord Jesus, thank you for Your blood that gives me life. Thank you for Your blood that sets me free to live a life of liberty. Today, I plead Your blood over conscious, subconscious and unconscious mind, that any tendency to sin that I inherited from the Adamic nature may be swallowed up by the life of Christ in your blood. I insist today that Your blood has made me exempt from any plague or pandemic and that because of Your blood, no evil will befall me or any that is mine. Amen.
