For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD. [13] And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.
Exodus 12:12-13
The Lord instituted the Passover in the old covenant. The reason for this was that He was planning to move over Egypt in a great a terrible judgement to execute His wrath upon them. God had told the Egyptians, let my people go and after 9 plagues, they were still stiff-necked. He decided to smite all the firstborn of the Egyptians, which according to ,Genesis 49:3, is the excellency of their strength. Yet, as a protection for His people, He told them to place the blood upon the doorpost and the lintels of their houses because when He saw the blood, He would pass over.
This scripture is especially relevant in these times with a raging pandemic over the earth. It is important to note that though the bible says it was the Lord that was executing judgement, the agent of destruction was called the angel of death or the destroyer, Exodus 12:23. This destroyer is satan. Satan is like a dog on a leash in God’s hands. The Lord can subdue him and decide to allow him to perform him to perform some certain things. He can also restrain the destroyer. In Isaiah 54:16-17, the Lord said “Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. [17] No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.”
The Lord created the destroyer, Hence He can boldly say to His own, “Fear not, do not be afraid for no weapon formed against you shall prosper”. The Lord is called the Father of all Spirits and so all spirits are subject to Him, good or evil, Hebrews 12:9. Some have corrupted themselves, but they are still answerable to Him. In Exodus 12, the Lord was essentially telling the enemy to wreck havoc, but when he saw the blood upon the children of Israel’s door, he had to pass over. The book of Job also gives more insight into the protection of the Lord over his own. In Job 1, God highlighted Job to satan, who was going to and fro the earth. As a destroyer, 1 Peter 5:8 says he goes to and fro looking for who to destroy. Yet, satan mentioned, Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land, Job 1:10. This means satan has no right to smite you or anything pertaining to you, without getting permission from God.
We are in a season on the earth where there is so much fear and terror in the hearts of men. Jesus captured this saying that mens heart will fail them for fear of the things coming upon the earth, Luke 21:26. Yet, in this time, the Lord is saying to you, beloved, that the Blood is upon you as a token and that when He sees the blood, He will not allow the destroyer come into your house. In essence, the blood is like a covering over you. In subsequent meditations, we will explore what it means that the blood is a token, the efficacy and how to use the blood of Jesus. Know this beloved, that there is a hedge of protection around you. Do not fear as mortal men do. He who has all the power in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth is on your side.
Prayer for today: Heavenly Father, Sovereign Lord and King, thank you for the blood of Jesus that You have placed as a covering over me. Father, thank you also for not giving me the spirit of fear, but of power, love and of a sound mind. I choose not to fear today, because You are with me. You are the strength of my life, of whom or what shall I be afraid?
