31 – Consecration: A secret to accelerated growth

John 7:38 (KJVS)

“He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.”

In this passage, the Lord Jesus is saying that those who believe in Him shall be like fountains of living water. Physically speaking, a fountain is the structure we know that brings forth water. So by saying “… out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water” the Lord is saying we shall be as fountains of living water. And because we have already believed in Him and have become born-again, every Christian is actually a fountain of living water.

Now when you think of a fountain, does it exist for its own self? The answer is no; else the fountain is profitable for nothing. A fountain exists to meet the need of providing people with water. Meaning, if a fountain constructor is to build a fountain (or renovate an existing fountain) keeping in mind that the purpose of the fountain is to provide people with water, the constructor would ideally design the fountain (or upgrade it) in a manner that would make it easier for people to collect water from the fountain. And if this is the case, and you happen to be working in the government water board in charge of allocating the flow of water in the community, what would you do when you notice that the fountain is more accessible to people? You will probably allocate a greater flow of water to it because the design of the fountain makes it easier for you to accomplish your goal of efficiently distributing water to the community. And consequently, the more the flow of water allocated to the fountain, the more people will come to it, and the more people come to it, the more upgrades it would require, and over a period of time, that fountain would be much more of a greater structure than it would have been if it was not designed with purpose in mind.

What is the point?

You are a fountain! And you are to live a life of purpose. The more you do, the greater you become. God will cause greater degrees of Christ’s gifts and resources to flow to and through you the more you make yourself available to do what He wants you to do. That’s the wisdom of consecration. God required the priests in the Old Testament to be consecrated before they could serve as priests, Exodus 28:3. To be consecrated means to be dedicated to God. Meaning, you consecrate yourself to God by dedicating yourself to Him to be used for accomplishing His own purpose. Doing this is like the fountain being designed to be more useful. The more you offer your time and energy to serve God’s interest, the more you are like that fountain that is optimized to make it easy for people to receive water. And what would God do? He will be like the government water board worker. He will cause more water to flow to and through you because giving you water means more people will receive water.

What is the water you will be dispensing?

It is the water of His Word, Ephesians 5:25-26. You will be a channel for the flow of the Word of God and the power of God in the Word of God, because the Word of God is the power of God, Romans 1:16.

Once it dawns on you that you are a fountain, you will realize that your growth is tied to how useful you are to God for dispensing His life to people. It would make sense that it is counter to your purpose to live for yourself. You are a fountain of living water! Therefore consecrate yourself (your time, energy and resources) to God, and watch yourself grow spiritually to be a channel of greater heavenly possibilities.

Prayer for today:

Lord Jesus, I dedicate myself to You. I want to live for You, not for myself. I give You my time, my energy, my resources, my life. Help me to indeed be a fountain of living water; a channel for Christ’s life to flow into this world. Help me Lord Jesus to live a life of purpose: Your purpose. In Your name I pray Lord Jesus, Amen.

Blessings Beloved 👋
