And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. [4] And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. [5] And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:3-5 KJV
Genesis 1 shows the steps God took to create the man in His image and likeness, the new creation man. Although the works were finished from the foundation of the world by the Word of God, over 2000 years ago, the Light of the World who is the very Word of God became flesh and dwelt among us, John 1:1-14. The expression of the command, Let there be Light, was that He who is invisible became visible, to bring about a visible expression of the thoughts and mind of God in Genesis 1. As the Word of God does not return void to the Father until He has accomplished all that He was sent to do, Jesus came to the earth as the true light of the World to begin a process that will end when He has put down all rule and dominion and every opposition to the authority of God, 1 corinthians 15:24-28. He will continue to work on the earth, as the Holy Spirit, through the six cycles of evening and morning, until the Man is formed (the last Adam and His bride, Ekklesia), who will be fruitful, multiply, fill the earth and subdue it and have dominion. This is the stone cut without hands that became a great mountain and filled the earth in Daniel 2.
In Genesis 1:1-3, we saw an introduction of the true light of God. This light shines in the darkness and the darkness could not lay hold of it, John 1:5,9. God called this Light to shine out of the dark regions of our hearts, 2 corinthians 4:6. This means that out of the darkness in the old creation, the fallen Adam who was without form and void with darkness filling his heart, God birthed a new creation, a creature of light. When a man says “Lord Jesus, be My savior, instantly, light breaks forth into that dark region. However, this light is amid the darkness. This darkness is the mind’s belief, lust, pride, struggles, and weaknesses of the flesh. Yet, in all these, the light of God remains in the heart. Upon the introduction of light, the first thing God did was to separate the light from the darkness. Here God gives man a choice, which is the right of every child of God.
When a man is in darkness, an unbeliever, he does not have choice yet. He is under the control of the devil and a slave and his only redemption is to receive the light of God. Afterwards, however, he begins to see, because of the presence of this light, what is good and evil. This is why a man can lie, steal, fornicate or perform some acts while he was an unbeliever, but the moment he becomes a believer, he may still perform these acts, but the feel is different. All of a sudden, he has a strong knowledge that he may not initially be able to explain, that fornication and pornography are wrong. This is God separating light from the darkness. He calls the Light day and the darkness, night. Once a name is given to something, the nature of it is defined and so it is possible to subdue it. What comes to this man at this time is the choice of whether to choose God or to choose to go back to his vomit. The good news is that He that is truly born of God does not willfully sin, because the seed of God which is the light of God, is in him, 1 John 3:9. This man belongs to the day and not the night, 1 Thessalonians 5:5, Romans 13:12-13. It is therefore typical that this new creation man begins to bemoan himself because he wants to do right.
It is the nature of light to shine in the darkness and not be subdued by it. Although the light we have may be small, as we tend to it and watch it by reading the bible (regardless of if there is understanding initially or not), the light increases until it becomes a full-blown sun, the day star in our hearts, 2 Peter 1:19. The Word of God on its own has the ability to convert our souls because it is complete and perfect, Psalm 19:7. In it is the ability to do, this is why, Jesus simply spoke a Word to a man lame for 38 years, who obviously does not know how to walk and without any physical therapy, he just found himself walking, John 5:1-9. This Word also contains the faith to believe. It is the very thing that framed all the world and that sustains all the visible and invisible world we see around us, Hebrews 11:3, Hebrews 1:1-3.
Final thoughts: It was said of Jesus that, butter and honey shall He eat until He learns to refuse the evil and choose good, Isaiah 7:15. Both butter and honey are an expression of the Word of God. Honey is the part of the word of God that is sweet to the taste, but becomes bitter inside when it is digested, Ezekiel 3:3, Revelations 10:9-10. Butter is made from the churning of the creamiest and thickest part of milk, which is the word of God, 1 Peter 2:2. As we give ourselves to the word of God and allow it to transform our souls by meditating on it (letting it churn in us like milk to butter and become bitter on the inside like honey), we learn to refuse evil and choose good.
