76 – The believer’s authority

Look, I have given you authority over all the power of the enemy, and you can walk among snakes and scorpions and crush them. Nothing will injure you.

Luke 10:19 NLT

The authority of a believer is a very important aspect for every believer to understand in order to become all that the Lord has for us. This authority given to us is delegated. This means the power behind it depends on the force or the person behind the authority. If a random pedestrian stands in the middle of the road and raises his hand, he can do little to command traffic, because he has no authority. However, if this man had a uniform, raising his hand is equivalent to the government raising their hands. Disobedience to this command will incur the wrath of the state. This is the same for us as believers.

Ecclesiastes 10:7 speaks of an error under the sun, where a ruler walks as a slave and a slave rides on horses. Oftentimes, believers live less than what God has apportioned for them, not because they do not have authority, but because they do not understand. The scripture in Ephesians 1:17-23, shows that the resurrection of Jesus from the dead was a showcase of God’s authority. Here, God broke through all barriers of death and raised Jesus to His right hand. This right hand is God’s authority, Hebrews 8:1, Psalm 110:1, and this is event also shows how we got authority. Ephesians 2:6 says we were raised together with Christ and seated at His right hand. This means the Authority of Christ belongs to Christ the head and the body.

What is this authority we have been given?

  • We have the right to claim that we are the Sons of God, Romans 8:14-17. This should remove all fear of the enemy and intimidation. A son of God is an heir, a joint heir with Christ. This means all things are ours and we are God’s. None should trouble us since we have the mark of Christ.
  • We have the right to go into the nations and make disciples, Matthew 28:18-20. All authority over all flesh has been given to Jesus. We have the right to go into the world and rescue all that were lost. It is our mandate and we have been given the full authority to excecute it.
  • We have the right to approach the throne of grace. Hebrews 4:16. There is absolutely no reason why a believer should stay outside the presence of God. The death of Christ gives us the confidence to approach God. Even Absalom, after he had commited murder and killed David’s son, had the audacity to demand to see the King. He was a King’s son and this was granted, 2 Samuel 14:30-33. How much more we, who have been redeemed by God and have the His righteousness as ours.
  • We have authority to tread down all the powers of the enemy, Luke 10:17-19. The emphasis here is all! We have authority over death, sin, demons, etc. We have the right to pull this down without any backlash from the enemy. Though, sometimes the enemy would try to test our knowledge of this authority, the man who knows will put him in his place.

The day we came in contact with the cross and believed Jesus, His authority became our authority. Being seated at the right hand of God, as His body, we have the right to execute the King’s command and to do so valiantly, Psalm 118:16. The difference between one living as a Son of God with full authority and one living as a slave is the knowledge they have. Go through the scriptures, any word that has been written regarding Jesus is true of you. Believe and work in this reality, Child of God!

Prayer for today: Father, thank you for adopting me into your family as a Son. Thank you for making me an extension of Your right hand which is destined to do valiantly. Help me to walk in the authority you have given me today. Give me understanding, that I may not be as a prince without understanding that dies as a slave. Amen

Blessings Beloved 👋
