“Then spake Jesus again unto them, saying, I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
John 8: 12
We learned previously, that as believers, it is essential to know and daily affirm that all that God is to us today is because of the resurrection of Jesus. The resurrection is the greatest event that ever happened, causing the indwelling of the Spirit in us forever. If Jesus did not wait for you to figure out your way to heaven on your own, He will not wait for you to figure out your way on earth on your own.
Mat. 28.18-20 says that “All power (authority) in heaven and earth has been given unto Jesus and, lo, He is with us always… His presence is always with us. In John 10:11-18, Jesus refers to Himself as the good Shepherd. Psalm 23:1 reiterates this – The Lord is my Shepherd! Jesus is our Shepherd; He is a leader, and leading is ingrained in the nature of Christ. We have to reckon with this truth, let this become our reality. Unfortunately, many Christians believe they have to beg God to lead them. Many believe they must travel to the top of the mountain for 40 days and 40 nights to get God to speak and lead them. Not so. The Shepherd always tends to, feeds, leads, and gathers the flock. That is the Shepherd’s disposition and duty. For everyone born into God, God is always leading them – hence Romans 8:14 says – those who are led by the Spirit are the Sons of God! We don’t force Him to lead us. His leading is constant; we pray to understand and to key into the leading of the Spirit.
We know we have the nature of God in us; we are His sheep; therefore, we hear His voice! It is our reality! My sheep hears my voice (John 10: 27-18). In John 8:12, Jesus declares “I am the light of the world: He that follows me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.” Darkness is non-existent in our nature. This has to sink into our consciousness that as long as we believe in Jesus, He is always leading us. When you know who you are and what you have in you, it is easier to follow the leading of the Spirit, and knowing what to do becomes easier.
Declare it with me: I am a child of God! It is the Father's pleasure and duty to lead me!
Now you may ask, where will I find God’s leading? Psalm 119:105 says, “Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.” You will find God leading you in His word – therefore, give the word first place. Study it, meditate on it, eat it, live His word! You will also find the leading of God in the Spirit within you. Remember God has put His Spirit within you and His Spirit bears witness. His Spirit also reveals to us things – the Spirit searches the depths of God. You will also find God’s leading through mature saints who practice the word.
Prayer for today: Father, I thank you. Thank you for who you are. You are my Shepherd, my leader. Thank you because the Shepherd is the defence mechanism for the sheep – therefore, Lord, you’re always leading me, guiding me, feeding me and tending to me as my Shepherd. Therefore, I boldly declare today, based on your word, that darkness is non-existent in my nature. I walk in light! In every aspect of my life, I follow your leading. I only know and hear your voice, and the voice of the stranger(the enemy) I will not follow - for I know not the voice of strangers
