“Those who look to Him for help will be radiant with joy; no shadow of shame will darken their faces.”
— Psalm 34:5 (NLT)
We live in a world where things seem to be unraveling quietly—economic instability, political unrest, wars, and uncertainty creeping steadily into the hearts of many. In the middle of it all, the question arises: What should be the posture of the righteous?
Scripture gives us a clear answer. In Psalm 34:5, we are reminded that those who look to the Lord will be radiant with joy. Not just calm or stable—but radiant. There’s something supernatural that happens when our eyes are fixed on Jesus: fear fades, peace rises, and shame loses its grip.
Beloved, in times like these, our most powerful posture isn’t striving or scrambling for security in worldly systems, but simply—yet boldly—looking to the Lord. Why? Because the truth is, nothing in this world offers true, lasting security. Not people, not wealth, not governments or even good intentions. As 1 John 2:17 says, “The world is passing away, along with its desires, but whoever does the will of God abides forever.”
Consider King Jehoshaphat in 2 Chronicles 20. He was faced with an overwhelming enemy—three powerful armies closing in—and didn’t rely on military strategy or alliances. Instead, he gathered the people and prayed, saying:
“We do not know what to do, but our eyes are upon You” (v.12).
That one line captures the heart of what God desires from us in moments of confusion or fear: “Our eyes are upon You.”
And God responded. He brought a great deliverance, and Judah’s enemies were defeated without a single sword being lifted by them. Jehoshaphat’s reign continued in peace—not because of his might but because of his trust.
Reflection: Where are your eyes fixed? What posture are you holding in your heart during these uncertain times?
Let the Spirit invite you to lift your gaze—not to the chaos around you but to the One who never changes. Fix your eyes on Jesus, and let your heart rest in the assurance that He is faithful, sovereign, and near.
Prayer:
Lord, in a world filled with uncertainty, help me to keep my eyes on You. I confess that at times I don’t know what to do, but I choose today to look to You. Be my peace, my security, and my help. Thank You for the joy and confidence that comes when I trust in You. In Jesus’ name, amen.
