Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.
Song of Solomon 1:4 KJV
The song of songs is the highest song of intimacy sung by King Solomon, the King of peace, to His beloved Shulamite. It is a shadow of things to come, where our Lord, Principal, and administrator of Peace, Yeshua, sings over His bride songs of love and deliverance. In songs of Solomon 1:4, a call was made to the Shulamite: a deeper call to a place of love, where they both would consummate their union. The call was a source of Joy, however, there was a need to prepare for this call. In the verses following, Songs of Solomon 1:5-13, we see that this invitation was a call to dine with the king and to enjoy and bask in his love too.
In the book of Esther, we see a contrast between the two queens of a very great King, Ahasuerus. This king was the greatest in His time, having over 127 provinces under him from India to Ethiopia. Queen Vashti was beautiful to behold, clothed with the beauty that the King had lavished her with and she was called to the banquet of wine, but she turned the king down and as a result, lost favour with the King. Esther on the other hand was taken from her people and brought into the king’s house to prepare to meet the King. She was also clothed with the beauty the King had lavished on her and she approached the King after months of preparation and did not come to him empty-handed. As a reward, she was invited into His inner chambers and received his love and a crown. In a subsequent chapter, when she was in a ‘life and death situation’ and needed the mercy of this king, she also prepared and dined with him in the banquet of wine where she offered herself, before making her request known. Her reward was the King’s heart and her life and that of her people spared.
In Isaiah 26:20-21 and Matthew 11:28-29, We received a call to the chamber of not just any King, but the High King of Heaven, the King of all Kings. The ranking of this King indicates the magnitude and importance of this call and that the call should not be taken lightly. There must be a preparation made before approaching the chambers of the King. So, along with the call to the secret place is a call to dine. In John 7:37-38 and Isaiah 55:1-3, the first invitation is to a banquet where there is wine, food, and many fat things. Wine is Rhema, the Spirit revealed Word of God and the fat things are all bread of life (the word of God for life) from the king. We are to buy this wine without money, but with the offering of our time and ourselves. As we interact with the King daily via His word, prayer, listening to His other servants preach, etc and we meditate on these words, we receive wine well refined and tailored to us individually and collectively. It is with these words and promises we approach the King. Isaiah 55:1-3 shows that as we dine with the Lord, He enters into a covenant of life with us, even the sure mercies of David. The result is that the covering that veils our eyes from seeing our King is removed and we enter into an exchange of life with Him that alters our DNA.
Final thoughts: Fasting and Prayer is a necessary part of our walk with God, hence Jesus said in Matthew 6:6, “when” you pray, enter into the chambers and your Father who is in the secret place will reward openly. This secret place is where we hear His sweet life-changing Words of assurance and life. However, we need to come before Him with the Words and songs He has given us. In numbers 14:28, the Lord said to Israel, that which you spoke in my ears, I will do. Although they spoke faithless words, the invitation for us is to come into Him with His faith-filled words and receive the covenant of life and peace given to all who seek Him.
Prayer: Lord Jesus I come to your table today to dine. I come to drink of the water of life and to the banquet of wine to feast with you, living bread and wine on the lease. In this place where I have Your full attention, help me to speak Your faith-filled words. In this place, spread your garments over me and pull me deeper into Yourself, here I will remember Your love more than the wine that this world has to offer.
