Genesis Day 1.
There are 6 days of work shown in Genesis 1. In this meditation, we will consider day one and see the work the Lord did on the first day. The first day is very important, the beginning of God’s creation.
“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, let there be light: and there was light. And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.”
Genesis 1:1-5
Here, we see the beginning of God’s creation. When we read this, our minds naturally go to the physical creation, the trees. This is not what God is referring to in this passage. The trees and all the physical things we see, were brought forth in Genesis 2. What we are reading in Genesis 1, is God declaring ahead of time the bringing forth of the new creation man. It is God announcing and revealing the process by which the new creation man will emerge. Every act of God that we see in Genesis 1 are the divine work of God in the church and in the believers life to produce the man that will eventually stand. All the 6 days of creation, each one coming forth at the command of the word of God are all a foretell of what God has in mind to bring forth the new creation man. Who is the new creation man? This is the man that bears the full image and likeness of God, this is God reproducing Himself, multiplying Himself over the whole Universe. The new creation man as we see in Ephesians 4:23-24
And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness
Ephesians 4:23-24
This new man is renewed by the knowledge of God, Colossians 3:10. Paul in speaking about the new man is referring to Genesis 1. If there is a new man, there is an old man. The new man is expected to swallow up the old man. Hence, after God made him, He told him to have dominion, Genesis 1:26-27. He will have to subdue the old man. Before the coming for h of the new creation, the old has always been there. The entire process given to us in Genesis 1 is the process it takes to be able to be fruitful, multiply, replenish the earth, subdue it and have dominion. Genesis 1:28
