And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; [6] And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; [7] And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.
2 Peter 1:5-7 KJV
The people of the world practice delayed gratification in order that their goals will be achieved. Top athletes do not take specific substances. Their body needs to be in shape at all times. They do this for a corruptible crown. When we see God's light and see the works of God, it directs us to be temperate. Peter tells us that the whole world will be destroyed by fire, so how do we conduct ourselves? This temperance is not just self discipline, but being temperate in view of God's standards
